When scrolling through Weight Watcher’s connect a couple of weeks ago I found this great idea of someone’s husband: for each lb his wife lost he place $10 into a savings account.
This idea stuck with me and after giving it some thought I decided to do the same. So besides my other savings accounts with Barclay bank I opened up a third one dedicated to my weight loss journey.
A Great Motivational Tool
Placing $10 into the savings account gives me a great visual of what I have accomplished and motivates me on one hand to continue to see this number grow but to also not gain weight since I will have to place more of my spending money than necessary into the account. For example, I have gained over 2 lb in these past two weeks those are $20 I have already placed into my account but will have to put into it again once I loose the weight again.
A Great Way to Save for a New Wardrobe
One great thing about loosing weight but also one I dread financially is the need for new clothes. Having items that no longer fit you because they are too big is a fantastic feeling that I absolutely love but it also means you have to buy new clothes and potentially items that will be too big a couple of weeks down the road. This can cause financial problems because not everyone has room in their budget to continuously buy new clothes but that also shouldn’t be used as an excuse not to loose weight. By placing $10 into my account every time I loose a pound I automatically save up money that I can use when I need new clothes, helping me to manage the financial burden that comes with it.
Applying to other Things
While I personally use this tool for my weight loss it can also be applied to all other goals for example if you want to get a FitBit. Why not reward yourself with $2 for every day you walk more than 10,000 steps according to a step tracking app or save up $10 every time you go to the gym for at least 30 min.
Another example could be decluttering. Maybe it is your goal to declutter your home (just like mine), so why not put aside $1 for each item you get rid of and put the money towards a nice vacation or a really nice high quality item that you feel is beneficial to you and you actually want to get.
